Recap: Tonight we played an older team, which is always a huge boon to me since my game is primarily composed of out-athlete-ing the other team, which isn't always an effective strategy against teams of similarly-aged individuals. No matter though, because tonight I (or most of my teammates, for that matter) really had no problems getting past our checks to wreak havoc inside, either by scoring or by finding open teammates. That being said, I think I realize more than ever that I need to slow down in fast-paced games because my handle is just not good enough to be crossing up folks in transition. Give me a half-court to work with and I can something happen, but attempting quick handles in quick games for Chris Tse = fail. Though I did break one set of ankles tonight... absolutely DROPPED the guy on a right to left before diming our SG for the layup. Was so pleased with myself.
Missing the summer runs at RCS, Carver, Como and Thompson Park... Asians are just so much easier to bully physically.
Yeah, I'm the guy who wrote "I'm Sorry I'm a Christian". But I write other stuff too. I see you, K'naan.

Current Musical Gold: Installment 10
"I like music. It defines life, love, and everything in between. I also happen to have an abnormally ridiculous amount of music in my possession, most of which I listen to very very rarely because I have a tendency to overplay. As in, overkill. As in, when I'm feeling a song I will play that tuneage over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until I am either sick of it, or it is inducted into my special itunes playlist simply titled LEGENDARY. Many songs have come and gone; only the chosen few have made it to LEGENDARY status. Every so often, because I like to share music that is good, I will post the tracks that I am feeling at the moment - the ones that are on trial to make it to LEGENDARY. Hopefully in this manner, you, my readers, will be able to expose yourself to a broader variety of good music. And who knows - maybe it'll even make your LEGENDARY."

So I’m sitting here in the cafeteria of my school, Dr. Charles Best Secondary, trying frantically to come up with a topic for my journalism editorial, which is inconveniently due tomorrow. Unfortunately, the thought process is being continually interrupted by the annoyingly perky voice of the television announcer. Today’s topic of interest? Paris Hilton and her recent DUI antics. Hmm, lady with annoyingly perky voice, let me see. I don’t care, and…I don’t care. But even as I think the words, I’m witnessing a phenomenon in front of my very eyes. It seems as if little Ms. Drunk Hilton, even though she’s thousands of kilometers south of the border, can still command the collective attention of everyone in the cafeteria from a 52x40 inch box. The girls are staring and laughing, and the guys are simply staring. Which leads me to this question. Am I the only one in this room not captivated by the alcoholic capers of that blonde bimbo on the screen? It would appear so. And while we’re on the topic, why don’t we make this our topic?
Why do we always find ourselves drawn to the daily activities of celebrities? Britney’s pregnant again, Brad and Anj broke up, and Fergie decided solo stuff wasn’t her thing (not really, but I wish. Her voice makes me want to commit vehicular suicide.) I mean, I’m sorry celeb hunters, but do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time than waste it? What can possibly be gained by knowing the state of a pop star’s love life? What profound knowledge can be discovered within the depths of a certain actress’ wardrobe malfunctions, or so-and-so rapper’s messy divorce case? You could get more useful information from a banana. Now, in all fairness, I’m not too big into the whole movie/television/pop music scene, so I’m not really at liberty to judge those who are. But hey. This is a freaking editorial, so I’ll write whatever the heck I want to.
Check this out. I’m a basketball fan, and have been from day one, when my near-black eyes were opened to the world. I play the sport, follow the sport, and know almost every damned player in the North American system. I assume a movie buff would know a goodly amount of actors/actresses as well. What I don’t know is what kind of car Kobe Bryant drives, whether Lebron's girlfriend had a job done, or when Kevin Garnett ran away from the US Marine Corps before getting a pigment operation to make his former Swedish skin black. I know where to draw the line between hardcore fan and slightly-psychotic-obsessive-compulsive-whateverpulsive stalker-fan. It’s a fine balance, but I think I do okay.
I’m not trying to be a prick; well, actually I am, but it didn’t start out that way. I just think that magazines and TV shows that make their killing off of the private lives of the celebrities are, for lack of a better word, trash. They succeed by taking the trash of peoples’ private lives and trashing them even more. These are people just like you and me; they just chose a career path that’s in the public spotlight 90% of the time. They deserve the right to have their privacy as well. So for those of you who spend your time prying into the lives of the rich and famous, here’s a tip for you: get your own life.

Recap: Wow... I think I now know how dominant LA feels when they roll out Gasol, Bynum, and Odom. We literally BEASTED on the other team tonight in the post - they had nobody over 6'4. It was magical. Throw in the fact that our big men can run, and there you have the reason three of our perimeter players posted 6+ dimes. BEAUTIFUL.
In other news, Miami will only be good if they can get a shooter and a decent ball-handler. Having Lebron AND Wade negates the need for a true point guard because of their playmaking ability, but you still need someone who can carry it up the floor and hit the open shot. I'd like the Heat to grab Shaun Livingston, who seems to have been bumped out of the Wiz rotation with Wall being drafted... Livingston (still my favorite player, btw) showed last season with the Wiz that he's over his knee obliteration and more than able to contribute again. If the Heat DO succeed in signing Mike Miller... that's game over.
Goodnight.

Newsflash: Tonight was literally THE most fun I have had playing basketball in a looooong time. It was just... it was beautiful basketball, plain and simple. Good ball movement, little to no selfish play, and a few highlight reel dunks (not from me, obviously.)
Also, getting more and more anxious for Bosh to just peace and let the Raptors rebuild in peace. I still hope Coleangelo gets something for him, but at this point, Bosh has alienated the TO fanbase more within the past few weeks than he did for the first seven years he spent with the team. Sad.

Happy belated birthday to corruption. Here's to another year of misrepresenting what could be the greatest nation in the world. For now though, the misguided materialists of the first world (including yours truly) are getting what they want in the Great White North, so why should we disturb shit when we have ipods and rock sick kicks?
-----
My mind is blown on a daily basis
As generations of the basest of nations
wade in hatred while the grandest of first world governments
stand by in complacence
Yet before we can turn our divided attentions to the screams
of the third world that repeat in our dreams
there are problems that perpetuate themselves in the places
in which we pass by, and the problems sit there
observed but unacknowledged
like wedding dress mannequins in overpriced bridal stores
We wait and wade these days
through world war-zones of wickedness
wasting our work and breath on things made of dust
while in our neighbourhoods
children thieve to feed their younger siblings
while single mothers work three jobs to pay for rent and diapers
In our neighbourhoods, where hypocritical Christians
notch conversions on their belts like serial rapists notch sexual conquests on their bedposts
Our world is dying
yet amidst all the crying and suffering is our
ever ready desire to forget about our bigger family
Being apathetic is a pathetic way to be
so for me
I try to make sense of this senseless mess
and the way we as humanity approach it with complacence
And it continues to blow my mind on a daily basis.
