Things I appreciate about you: Installment 2

This is the way life goes. The ebb and flow of our existence in this earth is meant to be lived in the present – those who live in the past miss out and end up being miserable because they can’t see past their memories to experience the beauty of life as it is. That’s the attitude that I’ve adopted towards life, odd as it may seem. Those who transcend that perspective and force themselves to be remembered and cared for in my conscious mind are the few and the special. And somehow, in the tumultuous shitstorm that has encompassed my last three years, you were never far from my mind. Funny how things work.

Things I appreciate about you: Installment 1

I think what I appreciate about you the most is that you’re real. I think what I hate most about the world is that it’s fake. Not THE world, but our world. We live in a fake-ass world where we watch fake shows and eat fake food and girls want fake bodies and guys want girls to get fake bodies and we have fake personalities and exude fake cheerfulness and fake happiness and it’s just a big orgy of fake and bullshit copulating to a Nickelback soundtrack. Those who remain real and true to themselves are, in my humble but correct opinion, the true heroes of our time, because they are fighting a silent revolution that nobody can see.

Current Musical Gold: Installment 14

"I like music. It defines life, love, and everything in between. I also happen to have an abnormally ridiculous amount of music in my possession, most of which I listen to very very rarely because I have a tendency to overplay. As in, overkill. As in, when I'm feeling a song I will play that tuneage over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until I am either sick of it, or it is inducted into my special itunes playlist simply titled LEGENDARY. Many songs have come and gone; only the chosen few have made it to LEGENDARY status. Every so often, because I like to share music that is good, I will post the tracks that I am feeling at the moment - the ones that are on trial to make it to LEGENDARY. Hopefully in this manner, you, my readers, will be able to expose yourself to a broader variety of good music. And who knows - maybe it'll even make your LEGENDARY."

Current Musical Gold: Installment 14 (in no particular order)
1. Orphans, Kingdoms - Brooke Fraser
2. Lullaby for Ghosts - Musk Ox

Glamourizing death is futile. It is death, and as much as we may dress it up with flowers and headstones, it is death.

We were all placed on earth to shine. Be it individually or in tandem with others, the potential to create light exists in all of us. That is how we were created, or evolved, as some of you might think. I see the validity in your opinions.

The problem, at least as I see it, is that too often those who are meant to shine individually, to discover their magic on their own, are held down by their relationships with others. We are meant for connection; this much is true. But at what expense should the individual maintain relationships? At the expense of their personal light? Is that not depriving the world from experiencing whatever excellence has been preordained for this being?

Something to think about.

Affirmation

Yesterday my grandma told me she was proud of me.

Me, the journalist. Me, the poet. Me, the curly-haired, dark-skinned, skateboarding misfit of the Tse clan.

I may be the strangest leaf on the family tree, but shoot, at least I'm still on the tree.
